Ben is watching the results of a teen heartthrob poll, on TV. The announcer says the winner is, “kirk,-“ but Ben cuts off the TV before we can hear the winner. He was gonna say Kirk Cameron (who plays Mike).
The ladies were really hot for him back in the day.
Mike comes in and starts watching with Ben, even though he has a big English paper due tomorrow. Carol, Jason, and Maggie come in to remind him how important this is. If he doesn’t due well enough, he won’t pass the course. That means he won’t graduate. He knows it’s important and claims he’s going up now to study. Then Boner comes in apologizing that he’s late and asking Mike if he’s ready to go.
Did you believe Mike?
Mike tries to come up with a reason Boner is there. He says they’re dropping in on a friend, Sheena ‘Woo Woo’ Berkowitz, who’s starting her new job at a pizzeria, and she needs moral support.
It’s really just because she has big breasts and they wanna see her go throw Pizzas.
Jason and Maggie tell Boner to leave and send Mike upstairs to do his paper, but he first needs to take out the trash. It’s his night.
Mike goes outside to take the trash. Boner’s hiding behind Mike’s car, and he thinks Mike got out of it. They continue talking about flipping Pizzas, while throwing the basketball. Jason comes out. He starts talking about Mike just forgetting about school and going into the NBA.
He’s not being serious.
Mike’s making his way upstairs and is distracted by what Ben’s watching on TV, it’s a news reporting examining the bikini. Maggie comes in, bans Ben from TV for the rest of the night (for Mike’s sake) and sends Mike upstairs to do his report.
Mike’s in his room, but he keeps finding distractions for him to do his paper. He thinks some took his desk, which is buried under a bunch a clothes. Then he thinks someone took his typewriter, which got buried by the clothes he knocked off his desk. Then he thinks someone took his book, which gets delivered by Jason right after he says that. He starts by typing his name. Then he decides he needs to write this on paper first. When he starts with a pencil, he realizes he needs a new one.
Mike goes to Carol’s room for a new pencil, but she thinks he just wants her help. Mike goes in to sharpen his pencil. It’s here Carol finds out he hasn’t even started yet.
She then starts explaining why he hasn’t given himself enough time, but Mike tells her to hold that thought. He runs to his room and grabs his tape recorder. Maggie and Jason hear all this running around so Maggie goes upstairs to see what’s up. Carol’s explaining everything, but Maggie knows Mike recording it.
Maggie drags Mike into his room. She gives Ben $10 to guard Mike’s door, so he won’t get out.
Actually a good plan.
Maggie goes downstairs and Jason’s watching that news report about the bikini. They hear noise coming from Mike’s room and it’s Jason’s turn to go see what it is.
Jason goes into Mike’s room to see Mike, in the dark, dancing to music, with underwear on his head.
I’m 100% serious.
He takes Mike’s stereo and tells him he’ll get it back when he’s done. What Jason doesn’t take into account is the cord getting caught in the door, causing Jason to trip in the hallway.
Jason takes the stereo downstairs and Maggie’s wondering what’s going on up there. Jason explain that Mike has no distractions now, unless he cleans his room.
What do we see in the next scene? Mike cleaning his room. Now he gets to work,
and then he starts balancing a pencil on his nose. Once he does that he goes for two. He finds a walkman or something in his drawer. He starts listening to the radio. Someone dedicated a song to a guy named Mike, not him. This gets him thinking about him and Boner at the Pizzeria watching Sheena throw Pizzas. She drops it and they go and help make a new one.
I actually really like the ambiance at the beginning, with Mike and Boner looking in on the Pizzeria.
Next, we see Jason and Maggie going into Mike’s room. Mike’s asleep and they wake him up. Jason tells Mike he really believed in him this time, but now he just has to accept that’s Mike just stupid.
When Maggie and Jason leave Mike’s room, Jason tells Maggie he didn’t mean any of that, but it would get Mike to work.
Mike is seen writing his paper. It’s under false pre-tense, but it worked, so it doesn’t really matter.
The weird thing about this episode is there’s no real ending. We don’t see how Mike did. The last scene is just Mike typing. I know he’ll do fine but a little bit more definitive closure may’ve been nice.
And That’s The Point.
